Obituary: Peter J. Mugavero, 86, Of Ridgefield
Peter received his barber's license in 1954 following in the footsteps of many generations of tonsorial artists.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Peter J. Mugavero, 86, died on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Leslie (Hardman) Mugavero.
Peter was born in the Corona section of Queens, NY on Oct. 21, 1937 to Jerome and Mary (Favuzza) Mugavero. They moved to the Branchville section of Ridgefield in 1941, where he was raised.
Peter graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1955. Following high school Peter enlisted in the Army Reserves, 344 M.P. Co., Danbury, serving honorably from 1956 to 1961. He was a member of the Italian American Mutual Aid Society of Ridgefield for over 50 years. A charter member of the "Ridgefield Townies," he loved sports and served as a little league basketball coach (1956-1960).
Peter received his barber’s license in 1954 following in the footsteps of many generations of tonsorial artists. He was a lifelong member of the Barber’s Union Local 175, Danbury. He worked alongside his father, Jerry, and his brother-in-law, Michael Pontello, until he opened his own business, Peter Barber’s Shop in 1962. In 1980, he changed the name to Peter’s Mane Concern. In 1992, his daughter, Linda Morganti, joined the business and worked alongside him until he retired in 2005. Linda continued with the business and has since renamed the shop The Barber’s Daughter.
Peter married Leslie (Hardman) Mugavero and settled in Brewster, NY to raise his daughter, Linda, and his son, Peter Mugavero, Jr. In retirement he and his wife moved to The City of Atlantis, FL where they enjoyed an active social life and he played golf with his many new friends. He was an avid lifelong fan of both the NY Yankees and the NY Giants.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Mary; his sister, Agatha Pontello and her husband, Michael; his brother, Jerry Mugavero; Leslie’s sister Patricia (Hardman) Ganley and their parents, Grace and Leo Hardman.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Leslie; his daughter, Linda; his son, Peter; his two grandsons, Benjamin and Jackson Morganti; his sister-in-law Joanne Mugavero; his nieces and nephews; and all of his longtime friends from Ridgefield, Brewster and The City of Atlantis.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.
