Obituary: Thomas P. Johnson, 86, Of Ridgefield

Mr. Johnson was a retired management executive for IBM, and a past president of the Ridgefield Kiwanis Club.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Thomas P. Johnson, 86, of Ridgefield, died on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023. He was the loving husband of JoAnn (Cain) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was born in Tokyo, Japan on December 9, 1936; a son of the late Elizabeth (Stephenson) and Dearns White Johnson. He attended the American School in Mexico City, Mexico and graduated high school from the New Mexico Military Institute. Later, Mr. Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and his master’s degree from Louisiana State University.

A resident of Ridgefield for the past 57 years, Mr. Johnson was a retired management executive for IBM. He was a licensed pilot and volunteered at the New England Air Museum. Mr. Johnson enjoyed various genres of music and also played the acoustic guitar. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, and he also spent time fishing and leatherworking. He was an avid photographer and chronicled every vacation, special event and outing; he was always behind the family camera. Mr. Johnson also was a past president of the Ridgefield Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of the Ridgefield Baptist Church, and he served as a church deacon and financial secretary.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn as well as his two daughters: Ruth Goldenthal and her husband, Jonathan and Heather Blanchard and her husband, Jonathan. Mr. Johnson is also survived by his grandchildren: Alex Goldenthal, David Goldenthal and his wife, Audrey, Ethan Goldenthal, Brandon Johnson and Amanda Johnson; his great granddaughter, Amelia Goldenthal as well as his daughter in law, Stephanie Bush.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Reid Johnson; a brother, James Lewis Johnson; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Johnson.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Ridgefield Baptist Church; 325 Danbury Road, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in Mapleshade Cemetery, Ridgefield. Family and friends will be received at the Ridgefield Baptist Church on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 10:15 AM until the time of the service.
