Photo Gallery: Ridgefield Sculptor Exhibits Work at New Bethel Artspace

Bethel Arts’ new Artspace gallery opening and holiday open house was a popular destination Saturday night for art lovers.

The new Artspace is located at 137 Greenwood Ave.,the former location of Hauser Chocolates. Attendees enjoyed music from Bethel Middle School Orchestra and Guitar Teacher, Richard Baumer, wine, cheese and perused the works of 15 local artists.

The featured artist giving a live demonstration was internationally-acclaimed sculptor, Ira Reines of Ridgefield. Reines is creating 20 bronze sculptures for a series of shows he has booked in Asia in 2015.

Reines’ work is inspired by Greek gods and goddesses and deals with creation and life. He said his series emphasizes the concept of “heaven reaching down and touching earth” and how we can all be spiritual creations and blend the two worlds.

Also in attendance was Bethel first selectman Matthew Knickerbocker who said, “This is wonderful. This is exactly what our downtown needs.”

Bethel High School students will hold their annual art show at the new Artspace on Jan. 23, 2015.
