Proposed Ban on Door-to-Door Sales in Ridgefield to get Review
The proposed ordinance would eliminate any permits for door-to-door selling.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — A proposed ordinance that would ban door-to-door sales in town will be on the agenda at the next selectmen meeting Wednesday night, The Ridgefield Press is reporting.
Currently, there is a process whereby vendors may legally obtain permission to sell door-to-door. The proposed ordinance would eliminate any such permits.
There has been an uptick in area door-to-door sales initiatives in recent months. Complaints about the relentless efforts of pest control salesmen in Wilton have caused that town's door-to-door sales policies to come under review.
Lawyers for communications giant Comcast, a company that has applied for a door-ro-door sales permit earlier in the year, have complained formally to the selectmen that a ban such as proposed in the new ordinance would be an unconstitutional restriction of free speech.
