Radley College Choir and Orchestra to Perform in Ridgefield

The choir from England will perform on Valentine's Day.

The choir and orchestra from Radley College, a prestigious English boarding school, will present a free concert of sacred and secular music on Feb. 14 at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church.

All are invited to the 6 p.m. concert in the sanctuary of the church at 207 Main St. (at Branchville Road).

“Enjoy this wonderful music and, with the concert’s early 6 o’clock start time, still have plenty of evening left for dinner out with your Valentine,” Henric Ideström, Jesse Lee’s music minister said in a press release.

Works to be performed include Holst’s “Jupiter” (from “The Planets”), Gounod’s “Petite Symphonie” and choral works by Howells, Elgar and Monteverdi.

Founded in 1847, Radley College is one of four boys-only boarding-only independent senior schools in the United Kingdom. (The others are Winchester College, Harrow School and Eton College.) About 670 boys, of ages 13-18, attend the school in Oxfordshire.

The Radley College performers will be in Connecticut as part of a visit to the Kent School. The two schools have a long-standing relationship.
