The Board of Selectpersons met twice this week. Once for a Special Meeting on Tuesday and again for their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday.
The special meeting was held to discuss the layout of the budget referendum questions and for an executive session to interview for the Fire Captain position (Executive sessions are not open to the public). Once the budget referendum questions are finalized and approved by bond council, they will be sent to the Town Clerk for printing. A sample ballot will be made available to the public prior to voting day, which is Tuesday May 14th.
Below is the recap from Wednesday’s meeting:
- Congratulations to Antonio Ramos on his appointment to the Parks & Rec Commission! In addition, Donald Ciota, Christine Santori, and Maureen Culhane, were all reappointed to the Commission for Accessibility, and Dr. Brittny Howell & Sean Dowd were reappointed to the ECDC. The Town of Ridgefield appreciates all of the volunteers who donate their time and efforts to our community.
- Did you know that the Town owns the building that ACT of CT calls home? ACT and the Town currently have a 20 year lease, however there are multiple Federal and State grants that require establishments that rent to have at least a 25 year lease in order to apply. The Town would like to extend the current agreement to 25 years so that ACT is eligible. This will require a Public Hearing (scheduled for April 24th) and a vote by the people at a Town meeting (scheduled for May 8th). As the landlord of the ACT building, the Town is required to address infrastructure issues that arise. Unfortunately, the last rainfall presented a roof leak that needs to be fixed ASAP. The BOS approved the allocation of funds from grant money awarded from the State to repair the roof.
- The BOS approved the 2023 Homeland Security Grant Resolution. Through the Homeland Security Grant, the State gives money and equipment to each of the 5 Regions of Connecticut to be used toward Emergency Operations & Management. Ridgefield, along with 42 other municipalities, falls under Region 5. Each year the BOS must approve a resolution to be signed by the First Selectperson that agrees to the terms for the grant money and equipment that is provided.
