Ridgefield Approves Controlled Hunt of Deer on Town Properties

The matter will come up for review in the spring

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Board of Selectmen has approved a controlled hunt of deer on town-owned property, The Ridgefield Press has reported. Hunting on state and private land is managed by the state.

The matter will come up for review in the spring in the form of a public hearing and town meeting which will be scheduled before March 31, 2019.

Hunting is only allowed from dawn to dusk, and is forbidden on days when there is no school, including holidays, snow days and vacation days.

The following properties are approved for archery only: Linden Lane, 26 acres; Ridgebury Farms, 94 acres; Bobby’s Court, 34 acres; Keeler Court, 26 acres; Colonial Heights, 19 acres; Peaceable Refuge, 16 acres; Silvermine Ridge, 14 acres; Turtle Ridge Court, 10 acres; and 20 acres between Old Trolley Road and Shadow Lake.

Hunting by archery, muzzleloaders and regular firearms would be permitted at Laurel Lane, 50 acres; and Shadow Lake, 40 acres.

Hunting by archery and regular firearms, but not muzzleloaders will be allowed at: The Ledges Road property, 26 acres, and Sarah Bishop, 39 acres.

Shotgun hunting and archery will be allowed at Stonecrest, 34 acres.

Archery and a "limited muzzleloader season" will be allowed at the Ridgefield Golf Course, 166 acres.

The deer hunting season calendar has been published by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
