Ridgefield Arts Council's "Generator" Arts Networking Event 2/12

Ridgefield Arts Council's "Generator" Arts Networking Event To Be Held At Ridgefield Guild of Artists 2/12

Ridgefield, CT - The Ridgefield Arts Council invites local artists, art lovers and creative professionals to the next installment of “The Generator.” The networking event will feature three speakers discussing their respective artistic endeavors, and will be held at 7:30pm, Monday, February 12th at Ridgefield Guild of Artists. The Guild will be showing the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association juried member exhibition “The Blues.”

During the event, artists, writers and performers gather with the goal of learning, sharing, and networking with others to enhance both their creative process and their careers. The events are managed via the website Meetup.com and feature innovative speakers, arts demonstrations and presentations geared toward the creative community.

S. C. Train, an area band that specializes in Irish fiddle and bluegrass, will discuss how they began their journey as musicians and will perform selections from their current favorite tunes. The band features the talent of the McCaffrey sisters: Charlotte, age 5, and Sophia, age 11, accompanied by their father Gregory. At just 11 years old, Sophia McCaffrey recently won the Roxbury Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ contest, in which children up to age 16 compete.

Book artist, Chris Perry, will talk about how he came to work exclusively on using his hand-made books, and lately, his altered recycled books, to create the increasingly large sculptures that depict water forms, the forces of water events, and man-made structures that work with water, all without the use of words or images. A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Perry has shown in many venues across the country. His work is included in the permanent collections at Yale University Gallery of Art as well as several other public collections.

Executive producer, Katie Diamond, from ACT of Connecticut, will discuss the latest happenings at ACT, including the upcoming performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at the Ridgefield Playhouse and the renovations to the former Schlumberger auditorium. When completed in June 2018, the new venue will produce Broadway musicals and plays for three-week runs, featuring Broadway talent and local professional actors. The first show ACT will present in the new theatre will be the smash hit musical Mamma Mia (June 7-24). Diamond, a singer, actor, writer and producer, has written, produced and/or performed in numerous musical theatre and cabaret shows over the past fifteen years.

Following the brief presentations, members of The Generator will be encouraged to mix and mingle with presenters and each other. Creative types who live in and around Ridgefield are welcome to attend. Cost of attending The Generator is $5 for pre-registration (via meetup.com/The-Generator-Ridgefield-CT) or $10 at the door, which covers the cost of wine and light snacks.

The Ridgefield Guild of Artists is located at 34 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield. For more information about the Ridgefield Arts Council, visit their Facebook page.
