Ridgefield Democrats Cancel Chilifest On Virus Fears
The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee has cancelled its annual Chilifest fundraiser over concern about the coronavirus.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee has cancelled its annual Chilifest fundraiser over concern about the coronavirus.
"Many thanks to the organizers, elected officials, eateries and amateur chefs that planned to participate," DTC officials said in a news release.
The 2020 Chilifest had been set for March 29.
The first case of COVID-19 in Connecticut, a person who works at Danbury Hospital, was confirmed Friday evening. The unnamed female health care worker is from Westchester County, New York. Health officials said Friday night that she contracted COVID-19 in New York.
Chilifest, one of the DTC's most popular community outreach events, is also one of the group's most important fundraisers. Presales for the event had brought the DTC to a quarter of its fundraising goal.
