Ridgefield High School Installs Vaping Detection Tech

The number of Connecticut high school students who used vaping products, such as e-cigarettes, is on the rise

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Vaping detection technology was installed at Ridgefield High School last month, the News-Times is reporting.

Fourteen sensors were installed throughout the school, with the intent of catching students in the act of using e-cigarettes.

The number of Connecticut high school students who used vaping products, such as e-cigarettes, doubled from 2015 to 2017, according to a study released by the state Department of Public Health. In Ridgefield, Administrators reported 24 students were reported either using or in possession of an e-cigarette during the 2017-18 school year, up from 15 incidents the previous school year. It is illegal to sell e-cigs to minors in Connecticut.

The sensors cost $995 each, along with a $495 software setup fee.
