Ridgefield High School Mourns Death Of Student Athlete

Nia Simpson, a junior at Ridgefield High School died Thursday. Her cause of death has not been revealed.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield High School community is mourning the death of one of their own.

Nia Simpson, a junior at Ridgefield High School, died Thursday, according to an email sent to families by Ridgefield High School Principal Jacob Greenwood on Friday.

Simpson was "involved in all aspects of life at RHS, playing volleyball, lacrosse, and ice hockey, and serving as a vital member of student government where she embodied their mission to 'be kind,'" Greenwood wrote. The student's cause of death has not been revealed, and funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Mental health counseling will be available to support staff and students at RHS beginning Friday and continuing into next week, Greenwood said.
