Two members of the Ridgefield High School class of 2014 recently completed the Procter & Gamble Resident Scholar Program at the company’s Duracell headquarters in Bethel, CT. Jordan Voves and Colleen Gruendel were both accepted into this highly-selective internship program designed to give students first-hand experience of how science and engineering are used in corporate America. The 3-day program included seminars given by P&G Engineers and Executives as well as lab experiment work and “engineering challenge” assignments. According to Jordan “the team at P&G that ran the RSP program was amazing. We were given so much personal attention and our schedule was packed with new and exciting projects each day.” During the awards ceremony, both Jordan and Colleen were chosen as the leaders of their respective peer groups and each gave a program summary and thank you speech to the audience of parents, teachers and P&G employees.
Jordan and Colleen were mentored by their RHS honors physics teacher Mr. Bryan Holmes who attended the final awards ceremony and dinner on June 27th. Mr. Holmes has encouraged his students to seek out and apply for these valuable career experience opportunities. After participating in this program, both Jordan and Colleen have an energized interest in pursuing a collegiate educational path that includes physics and engineering. Both will be applying to colleges this fall.
