Ridgefield Main Street Project In Final Stretch As Holidays Loom
Residents are enjoying new trees and plantings, new sidewalks and a repaved Main Street with dedicated turning lanes at each intersection.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — Work on the Main Street Project has entered its final stages just ahead of Ridgefield's winter holiday season festivities.
Residents are enjoying new trees and plantings, new sidewalks and a repaved Main Street with dedicated turning lanes at each intersection. Fourteen new parking spaces can be found in the CVS lot, past the newly re-opened exit and entrance.
The new plantings are comprised of pollinator-friendly native and nativar plants that will connect the pollinator pathway gardens established at the library and the Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center, according to Jane Didona a landscape architect retained by Ridgefield.

Along with the mature trees along Main Street, the new trees will "create a diverse canopy of flowers in the spring, shade in the summer, and color in the fall, as well as more opportunities for holiday lights," according to a news release from the Town. The shrubs and perennials are also pollinator-friendly natives that can withstand streetscape conditions and provide a four-season display of flowers, vegetation, berries, and fall color.
On the short to-do list are improved traffic lights, a resurfacing of the entire CVS lot, and the installation of electric charging stations and new trees during spring 2023.

"Our holiday festivities and shopping will be enhanced due to the new landscaping and updates to Main Street. I'm pleased this project is near completion and grateful for the strong collaboration among our merchants, the DOT, and contractors to enhance our Main Street," said First Selectman Rudy Marconi.
