Ridgefield March And Rally To Mark John Lewis Anniversary, Support Voting Rights

A Ridgefield march and rally July 18 will mark six years since John Lewis' death and support voting rights.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Community members are scheduled to march and rally in Ridgefield on Saturday, July 18, to mark six years since the death of U.S. Rep. John Lewis and call for the protection of voting rights and democracy, according to organizers.

The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 103 Main St., where participants will gather before marching to Ballard Park.

Organizers said community members may join the march at First Congregational Church or along the route, including at St. Stephen’s Church. Those joining along the route are asked to arrive by 2 p.m. so marchers maintain a visible presence between the church and Ballard Park, according to the release.

A rally at Ballard Park is scheduled to include speakers Josh Elliott, Noel Casler and State Rep, Aimee Berger-Girvalo (District 111).

“Six years after the passing of Congressman John Lewis, we’re gathering in Ridgefield to protect voting rights, carry his torch forward, and continue his legacy for the next generation,” the rally’s organizers said in the release.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring signs.
