RIDGEFIELD, CT — Over 1,800 marchers are expected to turn out for the town's Memorial Day Parade on May 30.
The annual tradition picks up after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus.
The schedule of events begins with a somber tone, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Ridgefield Veterans Monument in front of Jesse Lee Church, 207 Main Street, at 11:15 a.m.
Following a military rifle salute and the playing of taps, the parade proper will begin, stepping off from the church grounds at around 11:30 a.m.
The parade, organized by American Legion Post 78 for nearly a century, will proceed down Main Street and conclude at Ballard Park, 485 Main Street. Festivities will include speeches by civic leaders, a military fly-over and patriotic songs performed by the Ridgefield High School band and chorus.
There will be no parking at Jesse Lee Church, beyond what is afforded to first responders and parade officials.
