Ridgefield Names Teacher of the Year
The district is also honoring nine school-based teachers.

RIDGEFIELD, CT --- The Ridgefield Public Schools has named Jennifer DeJulio, a social studies teacher and student government advisor at Ridgefield High School, as its District Teacher of Year for the 2018-19 school year.
The Teacher of the Year Program recognizes and honors teacher excellence. It does not attempt to select the “best” teacher; rather, the goal is to identify one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of best practices within the profession. Nominations are submitted by teachers and a committee of peers selects the building winners. A district-wide committee then reviews the list of winners from each school and selects the final district Teacher of the Year. In Ms. DeJulio’s nomination, she was described as an educator who not only teaches history but “instills in her students the ability to create history."
Ridgefield Public Schools also named the following 2019 School Based Teachers of the Year:
- Barlow Mountain Elementary - Regina Zafrin, Special Education Teacher
- Branchville Elementary - Dianne Schnee, Kindergarten Teacher
- Farmingville Elementary - Nora Marrinan, Music Teacher
- Ridgebury Elementary - Richard Cesareo, Physical Education Teacher
- cotland Elementary - Jodie Luongo, Math Specialist
- Veterans Park Elementary - Tricia Winkler, Literacy Teacher
- East Ridge Middle School - Maureen Tyra, Social Studies
- Scotts Ridge Middle School - Charlsie Vanderrest, Science Teacher
“National Teacher Appreciation Week provides our community an opportunity to thank all of our teachers for the work they do to promote learning for every student, every day,” said Acting Superintendent Dr. Robert Miller. “On behalf of the district, I congratulate Ms. DeJulio and all our building Teacher of Year winners and thank them for their outstanding contribution to our school community.”
