Ridgefield Passes Anti-Fracking Ordinance
The referendum came in the form of a voice vote at a Town Hall meeting Wednesday night.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — Not that it was much in doubt, but Ridgefield residents voted to approve a strict new ban on fracking and its waste products, the News Times has reported.
The referendum came in the form of a voice vote at a Town Hall meeting Wednesday night, attended by more than 160 residents.
The comprehensive ordinance forbids the introduction of natural gas waste or oil waste into any wastewater treatment facility or solid waste management facility in town, either in town or operated by the town. It also forbids the "storage, disposal, sale, acquisition, transfer, handling, treatment and/or processing of waste from natural gas or oil extraction prohibited within the town."
