The Ridgefield Playhouse will recognize Women’s History Month this March through its Diversity Film Series. They will present a FREE screening of Erin Brockovich on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 7:30pm. The screening is part of the Aquarion Water Company Diversity Film Series and the Cohen and Wolf P.C. Movie Series. In this 2000 biographical drama film, Julia Roberts (Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, Eat Pray Love) takes on the role of Erin Brockovich, who fought against the energy corporation Pacific Gas and Electric regarding its role in the Hinkley groundwater contamination incident. The film, based on the true story, was nominated for five categories at the 73rd Academy Awards, with Roberts taking home Best Actress. Roberts was also awarded a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Erin Brockovich is a poignant film about justice, power, and perseverance. The bonus content for Erin Brockovich will consist of an interview of Jill Buck led entertainment reporter Cheryl Washington. They discuss how the issues of environmental pollution brought up in this film are even more relevant today. Buck co-founded the Go Green Initiative, which works with schools to protect children from adverse environmental conditions, secures access to nutritious food and helps conserve natural resources for the future. Jill is also the co-host of the weekly program Go-Green Radio which can be heard on VoiceAmerica.com and co-authored the book, 47 Things You Can Do For The Environment. This interview can be seen following the screening in the theater or on the Playhouse’s YouTube channel.
