Ridgefield Police Remember K-9 Zeus
During an operation in 2006, Zeus was responsible for the seizure of 10 pounds of marijuana.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — The police are remembering K-9 Officer Zeus, who was euthanized five years ago.
"After five years K-9 Zeus is still in our hearts," Ridgefield police officials posted on social media.
Zeus was an 11-year-old German Shepherd, euthanized April 15, 2015 as a result of a severe degenerative hip disorder. He had been retired a year earlier due to the disorder, and saw his health seriously decline in his last year.
The K-9 officer had joined the Department in 2006 and was partnered with Sgt. Shawn Murray, with whom he continued to reside after his retirement.
According to police, Zeus was responsible for over 250 narcotics arrests, performed hundreds of demonstrations for the public and conducted over 50 tracks for missing or wanted individuals in his career. During these tracks he located six people who were in life-threatening situations and located six suspects who had fled the scenes of crimes.
During an operation in 2006, Zeus was responsible for the seizure of 10 pounds of marijuana.
"Zeus was a valued member of our team as well as our community," police officials posted on Facebook. "He will always remain in our thoughts, and never be forgotten."
