Ridgefield Public Schools Name Teacher Of The Year
The Public Schools have named Ridgefield High School Family and Consumer Science Teacher Lori Peck as their Teacher of the Year.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Public Schools have named Ridgefield High School Family and Consumer Science Teacher Lori Peck as their Teacher of the Year.
Peck's colleagues cite her "enthusiasm, engagement, and her ability to connect students with their community as some of her greatest strengths," according to a news release.
One of her students said: "Ms. Peck has taught me that an education goes far beyond textbooks and planned lessons. An education teaches you to be a better person, to live your life ethically and to its fullest. Mrs. Peck taught me to love learning, to strive to be educated and be the best person I can be. She has shown me that the greatest lessons in life come from genuine kindness."
Peck’s response to COVID-19 reflects her "concern for community, compassion, innovation, and sewing skills," according to RPS.
"When she learned about PPE shortages for doctors and nurses, she discovered that surgical hoods were desperately needed. She designed and sewed the hoods with water-resistant material that she previously used to make sanitary napkins for female students in Africa so they could stay in school. She also used a mesh from reusable produce bags to make the design breathable."
Peck wrote: "I have been a teacher for 27 years in four different districts and three different states. During quarantine, Family and Consumer Sciences have become a necessity for families everywhere. Families found themselves sewing masks, stretching their food and making meals at home, and having to get along with each other. RHS students are kind, fun, curious, and want to learn."
