Ridgefield Resident to Join Shepherds Board

Ridgefield resident and former attorney Lissette Currier-Martinez will join the Board of Directors for Shepherds, a Bridgeport-based nonprofit that provides tuition support and mentorship to high school students in the New Haven and Bridgeport areas. During their 20 years, Shepherds has changed the lives of 265 students who might otherwise have dropped out of high school.

A native of Miami, Florida, Ms. Currier-Martinez resides in Ridgefield, Connecticut, with her husband and four children. She earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1991 and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Miami in 1988. Lisette practiced law in Florida from 1991 until 1999 specializing in health care law and served as regional general counsel for Foundation Health Systems Florida. She “retired” from the practice of law in 1999 to raise her children.

Lisette became involved with Shepherds in the fall of 2015. She had learned about it through another parent at Fairfield Prep. Mentoring Quinton, a rising senior at Kolbe Cathedral High School in Bridgeport, has been a wonderful experience for Lisette and her family. A good student and avid basketball player, Quinton was a junior starter on the school’s 2018 state division-winning team. Says Lisette, “What I have found personally is that my family and I have received more from our relationship with my student than I could ever have imagined. I’m certain other Shepherds mentors would say the same thing.”

Lisette is proud to play an even greater role in the organization. “I am looking forward to working with the very committed and dedicated folks who are involved with Shepherds to expand the program’s outreach and impact. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and jump in as needed.”
