Ridgefield to Review Plan to Thwart Mudslides

The mudslides followed homeowners' removal of trees and excavation of a pond without a permit.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Inlands Wetlands Board will review a plan to stabilize the hillside of a Richardson Drive property at a special meeting on Tuesday Aug. 28, The Ridgefield Press is reporting.

The plan was drafted by a civil engineer hired by homeowners Cory and Jaime Neas in the wake of several mudslides. The mudslides followed the Neas' cutting of many trees on the hillside above their Richardson Drive property, and their excavation of a pond, without a permit.

The plan, as submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission, involves stabilizing the slopes, adding vegetation to the area and expanding the size of the pond.

The pond was originally created by the Neas as a means “to manage the incredibly large volume of stormwater that runs off the properties above" their home.
