Ridgefield Scam Alert: Police Say to Beware of Phishing
The Ridgefield Police Department reminds residents not to give out personal information online unless the source can be verified.

The Ridgefield Police Department is reminding residents not to give out any personal information online unless you can verify that the business is legitimate.
The department wrote on their Facebook page:
“Recently a resident was on the computer when a message popped up stating that their private information was compromised and to contact a phone number that was listed on the pop-up. The pop-up message looked legitimate and had the name and insignia of a well known computer software company. This is know as phishing. In an instance like this never call the listed number and never click to open any tabs associated with the pop-up.”
Phishing is when a person attempts to acquire personal information, usernames, passwords, social security numbers and other important information by posing as a trustworthy entity. Once the criminals have the personal information, they may use it to open accounts under your identity.
If you feel you have been a victim of phishing, call the Ridgefield Police Department by calling (203) 438-6531.
