Ridgefield School Budget Runs Into Cap Issue

The school system is looking for ways to come in under the cap.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — More Ridgefield school cuts are possible due to a 2.5 percent cap of municipal spending that was passed by the state legislature last year.

Superintendent Karen Baldwin proposed a 4.83 percent increase in the school budget, according to the Ridgefield Press.

Special education costs, which make up about one percent of the increase are exempt from the cap. The school district will attempt to change health insurers to save money, but it requires meeting with several unions.
