Goodbye bathing suits, hello leotards. As summer winds down, parents and students are getting ready to head back to school, which means it’s also time to sign up for extracurriculars. The Ridgefield School of Dance, celebrating its 25th year in Ridgefield, will jeté into its fall session on Wednesday, September 7. Classes are filling up quickly but there are a few spots still open.
“Fall is when we welcome back our dance families, many of whom have been with us for years, as well as brand new students. Whether one has been dancing for years or is just beginning in dance or an adult looking to jazz up their workout routine, we have a class for you,” said Alison Brown, director of The Ridgefield School of Dance.
The core discipline here is the classical ballet department, headed by artistic director Jessica Boelts, which offers classes starting with pre-ballet for boys and girls starting at age 3 and continues through seven graded levels culminating in Company, pointe and partnering for advanced level dancers.
For teens who are newly interested in ballet, or those who can only commit to a once a week class, the school offers Ballet Technique for Teens. Jazz, musical theatre, lyrical and contemporary are all offered through the school’s jazz department.
A brand new offering this year is Modern, which will be taught Saturdays by Jamie Rae Walker, who performed with the Paul Taylor Company for almost two decades. After a one-year sabbatical, Jacob Taylor is returning as an instructor and will teach levels from Ballet 2 up through company and partnering.
Adult dancers can enjoy a varied offering of classes in ten sessions starting the second week of September and ending just before the winter holidays. Classes range from beginning and intermediate ballet to Jazz and adult tap. Nia, a mind-body-spirit class that is a mix of dance, martial arts and mindfulness, will be offered as a drop-in class.
The fall season runs from September 7 though the end of January with the spring session starting the first week of February and running through early June.
The Ridgefield School of Dance is at 66 Grove Street. For more information, visit www.theridgefieldschoolofdance.com or call 203.894.5957.
