RIDGEFIELD, CONN. — As a leader in classical ballet training for over 25 years in Ridgefield, the Ridgefield School of Dance will jeté into its fall session on Wednesday, September 6. Registration has been robust but there are still some openings available.
“We always look forward to the start of the fall season to welcome back all our dance families, many of whom have been with us for years, and to begin working with brand new students,” said Alison Brown, director of The Ridgefield School of Dance. “Whether you have young children looking to begin their ballet journey or are a teen with an eye towards a career in dance seeking advanced classes in the Pre-Professional division here, we have a class that will suit you.”
The heart of the school is its classical ballet department, headed by artistic director Jessica Boelts, which offers classes starting with pre-ballet for boys and girls starting at age 3 and continues through the pre-professional level, culminating in Company, pointe and partnering for advanced level dancers.
Besides ballet, there are classes offered in jazz, theater dance, lyrical, modern and contemporary fusion. For teens who are newly interested in ballet, or those who can only commit to a once a week class, the school offers Ballet Technique for Teens.
A brand new offering this year is a Modern/Contemporary fusion class for advanced dancers and a eight-week choreography workshop.
The roster of instructors here in the ballet department, all with impressive professional credits and resumes, includes Artistic Director Jessica Boelts, Anita Intrieri, Violeta Katz, Jamie Rae Walker and new this year is Carla Körbes. Ms. Körbes was formerly a principal dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet company.
Former Rockette Stevi Van Meter guides jazz, theatre dance and tap dancers while Jamie Rae Walker teaches Fusion, Modern, and Lyrical in addition to Ballet.
Adult dancers can enjoy a varied offering of classes in mini sessions starting mid-September and ending just before the winter holidays. Classes range from Ballet to adult tap and NIA, a mind-body-spirit class that is a mix of dance, martial arts and mindfulness. New this fall, Ms Körbes will be teaching an adult ballet class on Thursday mornings.
The fall season runs from September 6 though the end of January with the spring session starting the first week of February and running through the spring performance in early June. A highlight of the holiday season here is the school’s annual performance of The Nutcracker, taking place November 19 at the Ridgefield High School.
The Ridgefield School of Dance is at 66 Grove Street. For more information, visit www.theridgefieldschoolofdance.com or call 203.894.5957.
