Ridgefield Schools Faces Budget Deficit
Several surprise costs in special education, weather-related issues and a bump in enrollment caused the increase.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield Schools will likely need a special appropriation to cover a budget deficit that is expected to reach $1.3 million.
A spending freeze was put into place in September to help control costs, but the school system saw more enrollment in the summer and an increase in special education costs, according to the News-Times.
Unplanned out-of-district placements for special education will cost another $525,000. Four students with special needs moved to Ridgefield over the summer and then another three moved into the district.
Another $241,000 was needed to fix problems with frozen pipes and other weather issues.
