Ridgefield Students Stage Walkout, Rally for Stricter Gun Laws
All eyes were on the Ridgefield High School students who planned the nationwide protest.

RIDGEFIELD, CT ---An estimated 1,000 Ridgefield students marked the 19th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine High School with a walkout where they were suddenly ground zero.
Ridgefield High School sophomore Lane Murdock organized the national march in just a scant two months, creating an online petition at Change.org which had close to 270,000 names by the day of the march.
Senator Richard Blumenthal was the featured speaker at the Ridgefield rally, which was held in the Tiger Hollow playing field. He was joined by Jeremy Stein, the director of Connecticut Against Gun Violence, a group that advocates for stricter gun laws.
The march was more politically charged than the March 14 #NationalSchoolWalkout, with students and speakers calling for stricter gun laws and targeting the National Rifle Association, legislators and assault rifles in their rhetoric.
