Ridgefield Voters Approve Retail Marijuana Ban

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Residents approved an ordinance prohibiting cannabis business in town, at a special town meeting Wednesday night.
The vote at the Town Hall Annex went 144-43, and ended discussions begun last summer when marijuana use became legal in Connecticut. The law opened the door for retail sales to begin in May 2022, pending local approval, and for residents to grow their own plants the following year.
That local approval was not to be found in Ridgefield, where the newly approved ordinance prohibits the "the establishment, installation, creation, operation, or use" of cannabis businesses in town. The measure is meant to "secure and promote the health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the Town of Ridgefield by restricting the adverse impacts of the cannabis industry and preserving the Town of Ridgefield’s quality of life.
