Ridgefielder Wins Silver Medal at Lake Placid's 'Running of the Balls'
The USA Luge's inaugural 'Running of the Balls' on Lake Placid brought in $12,000 for athletic programs.
RIDGEFIELD, CT-- A Ridgefield resident has taken home the silver medal at Lake Placid's first annual 'Running of the Balls' fundraiser, conducted by USA Luge, according to a press release.
A total of 960 lacrosse balls were raced down the one-mile course. The event generated approximately $12,000 for luge’s athletic programs.
“Never did we imagine that the first year would be this successful,” said Gordy Sheer, USA Luge Director of Marketing and Sponsorships and 1998 Olympic silver medalist. “And it was great to see so many people having lots of fun with the event itself. We thank all those who donated, sponsored and helped execute the first of many Running of the Balls.”

- Gold – Barrett Quinn – Lake Placid - $500
- Silver – David Filaski – Ridgefield, Conn. - $300
- Bronze – Brad Austin – Albany - $200
- Fourth – Nancie Battaglia – Lake Placid - $100
- Fifth – Sammy Tilden – Lake Placid - $100
- Last place – Barb Ryan – Lake Placid - $100
