Ridgefielders Opposed to Later School Start Time Want a Vote
...but a vote at a town meeting might not be enough to change the Board of Ed's decision.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Petitioners opposed to the school board's decision to start classes later at Ridgefield High Schoolare seeking a town meeting on the matter, the Ridgefield Press is reporting. At issue is whether a town meeting has the legislative authority to overturn the board's decision.
Legal research by the town's attorney and the law firm Shipman & Goodwin, attrneys for the school system, is now underway.
The decision, made last year by the school board, to change the high school's start time has proven thorny. Altering the bus schedule for the high school students will also impact the schedules for others schools in town, unless money is spent to add more buses.
