BRANFORD, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Ashley Murphy, who nominated her daughter Kenzie, an 8th grader in Branford.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Kenzie works extremely hard to be a role model within her school, at home and doing community service at her former Elementary School. She also was just chosen by her school to receive the SCASA Award which is the South Central Area Superintendent Association Award at the luncheon in April. She is also currently the Assistant Stage Manager for Walsh’s Musical Production of Guys and Dolls.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

That Kenzie is a huge advocate for mental health and students getting help and not feeling alone. She had had to work extremely hard on her own journey and she never wants anyone to feel alone or like it defines them.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,MyKenzie - 8th Grade!
