Press release from CGA:
Oct. 22, 2020
State Senator Will Haskell (D-Westport) today applauded Connecticut’s recent allocation of $20 million to support local health district's efforts to fight COVID-19. This week, the state approved the first 21 local health districts and departments to receive portions of the funding. Every health district in Connecticut is slated to receive a portion of the $20 million, with the funding intended to be used to enhance laboratory detection, contact tracing and other capacity strains; strengthen laboratory testing volume; work with partners to respond to and prevent spread of COVID-19; prevent and minimize disease transmission; and conduct health education activities.
"In our region, we know the seriousness of COVID-19, as we were one of the first locations in the country to see significant community spread," said Sen. Haskell. "I'm thankful for the state's investment in New Canaan and Ridgefield, as this funding will play a significant role in helping our communities remain healthy and safe. As we continue to focus on slowing the spread of COVID-19, any and all resources like these offered by the state will bolster and benefit our efforts."
The 21 health districts receiving allocations from this initial dispersal of funds include New Canaan and Ridgefield. The New Canaan Health District will receive $29,530 in its first allotment, receiving a total of $73,825 through 2022. Ridgefield will receive $33,326 in its first year and $83,314 through 2022.
The funding allotments will be provided to health districts in three dispersals. Each dispersal period covers one year of time; departments will receive allocations from May 2020 to May 2021, May 2021 to May 2022, and May 2022 to November 2022.
