St. Stephen's Christmas Concert Features Young Singers

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Ridgefield presents “Carols by Candlelight,” on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary at 351 Main St. The concert will feature the St. Stephen’s Choristers - a group of young singers, with the youngest in the third grade – as well as the St. Stephen’s Festival Choir and a 28-piece professional orchestra. Scott Toperzer, minister of music at St. Stephen’s, will conduct.

The choristers will sing three pieces from Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols: “Hodie,” “That Younge Child” and the lullaby “Balulalow.” Wendy Kerner, principal harpist with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, will accompany them, and the women of the St. Stephen’s Choir will join them in “Balulalow.” The choristers will be soloist on “Silent Night,” and they will sing John Rutter’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day” with the women, also accompanied by Ms. Kerner on the harp.

The Chorister Program at St. Stephen’s, which is open to youth in third grade through high school, welcomes all young singers in Ridgefield and surrounding communities. Directed by Mr. Toperzer, the program uses the Voice for Life training program of the Royal School of Church Music.
