What’s Happening in Retail: The Pilates Barre

Sharon McSpedon opened the The Pilates Barre at 28 Prospect Street in 2010 after more than 25 years in the industry. Hers is the only Barre and Pilates studio in the area.

“I opened the studio as a place for students to get instruction from highly trained teachers in a beautiful state-of-the-art environment,” she said.  “We run classes with a 12-student capacity as well as private and semi-private classes.”

With an emphasis on precision, form and focus, clients move through a series of exercises designed to lengthen and strengthen the entire body.  The studio is dedicated to strict Barre and Pilates classes but also offers classes that fuse these disciplines with elements of Yoga and classic strength training.

“The most rewarding part of what we do is seeing the changes in people - physical and mental,” said Mrs. McSpedon. “Clients say they have never felt stronger and that they are more aware of posture and alignment as they move through the day.”  Prospective students may call the studio for a complimentary class.

For an up close look at The Pilates Barre, the studio will host “Ladies Night Out” tonight from 7-9 p.m. to benefit The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury.  The evening will include the chance to meet the staff, enjoy class demos, meet make-up and skin care experts, and view new lines of fitness apparel.  For more information visit pilatesbarrecore.com.
