Wooster School's Simon Felicione Reaches Eagle Scout
Reaching this rank is not an easy task, as only four percent of boy scouts become Eagle Scouts.
Simon Felicione ‘19 achieved the honor of Eagle Scout last month! He passed his board of review, an interview in which he was asked various questions about Boy Scouts.
Simon first started scouts as a Bobcat in first grade. He then bridged over to Boy Scouts in 2011 and has been in Boy Scouts ever since. In total, this is the start of his 11th year in scouting.
Reaching this rank is not an easy task, as only four percent of boy scouts become Eagle Scouts. According to the National Eagle Scout Association - “The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years.”
In order to achieve such an honor, Simon had to complete an Eagle Scout project. For his project, Simon conducted a food drive, where he “held a food drive, this food drive helped collect food for the New Fairfield Food Pantry. We collected food both at my local grocery store and here at Wooster School.” Not to mention, Simon also “taught the scouts all about nutrition and healthy eating with a presentation” and “ran an activity in which groups of scouts were given a budget and grocery store flyers. The scouts then had to make meals for the week.”
This honor means a lot to Simon, “Obtaining the Eagle Scout rank is a great honor to me because it demonstrates all of the skills I have learned and the journey I have taken. Throughout this long journey, I have learned and given so much, which can be represented in the Eagle Scout patch.”
Boy Scouts will have a lasting effect on Simon. “Boy Scouts has most definitely molded me into the person I am today. I have learned how to be a better person in all aspects of my life, from school, to sports, to religion, to my community, and even my family. Living by the Scout Law (A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent) is what truly made me, me. Following all twelve of those words every day.”
