Debate for Democracy

More than ever, in our current social, cultural, and political climate, we need good examples of productive, civil public debate. Debate for Democracy is an event organized by the First Selectman’s Youth Commission that fulfills this role; a presidential-style debate hosted at Town Hall, between students, on an issue relevant to our town — and our country. Help change the way we talk out our differences in America.

This year's topic is Government Aid in a Democracy. Audience members engage by asking questions to debaters, and voting for a candidate at the end. 2 community service hours are given for attending. The event will be livestreamed, and photos and videos will be published in the press.
