• Fundraisers Launched For Hartford, Rocky Hill Officers Shot In Newington (patch.com) — A Rocky Hill police officer wounded in a Newington shootout now has a dedicated fundraiser, alongside a Hartford officer, to help with medical and recovery costs. The incident began with a Hartford investigation, ended in gunfire on Webster Court, and is now under review by the state Inspector General. Both officers are recovering and donations have already topped tens of thousands of dollars.
• Officers recovering after Newington shootout with wanted suspect (wfsb.com) — Rocky Hill residents are learning more about the pursuit and shootout that left Officer Jon Escobar wounded after joining Hartford police in chasing a wanted suspect into Newington. The suspect was killed, two officers were shot but are recovering, and town leaders are emphasizing the daily risks local officers face. Fundraisers for both injured officers have already surpassed $10,000 each.
• Oldest US inmate dies at 101 years old after being spared execution 8 times: report (ground.news) — Rocky Hill quietly figures into national headlines as the town where 101-year-old Francis Clifford Smith, believed to be the longest-serving inmate in U.S. history, spent his final days at a secured nursing facility. After 76 years behind bars and multiple postponed executions, he died in his sleep in June, closing a long-debated chapter in American criminal justice.
