The purpose of the LLLCT Health Care Provider Seminar is to provide the latest evidence-based information on breastfeeding. The seminar is targeted to physicians, nurses, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals who support breastfeeding dyads. By attending, professionals are eligible for continuing education credit.

Newman will provide a series of sessions that will enhance and inform a clinician’s work on the following topics:

· What They Didn't Teach You about Breastfeeding

· Introducing Solid Foods

· Controversies in Breastfeeding: Formula vs. Breastfeeding

· Late-Onset Decreased Milk Production

· When Baby Refuses the Breast

Newman will present his work that demonstrates a baby’s innate ability to find the breast, latch, and transfer milk, as well as how clinicians can identify and solve breastfeeding problems. He will present analysis on why some babies don’t gain well on breastfeeding alone after the first few months and will share solutions to achieve optimal growth. Newman will also dispel myths about breastfeeding, including the fact that certain medical problems do not automatically mean the baby cannot breastfeed. His talks feature videos of his work and include time for questions.

LLLCT will also present its Healthcare Provider of the Year Award during the seminar. It is awarded to a Connecticut healthcare professional who focuses on supporting breastfeeding families and/or advocates for breastfeeding.

Details on the seminar’s agenda, continuing education opportunities and registration can be found at www.lllct-hps.org. Exhibitors and vendors will be in attendance.
