Due to the snowstorm, Witness Stones will be help February 1, 8, and 15.
This 3-part free public educational series examines slavery in Rocky Hill. Sessions are 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on February 1, February 8, and February 15. The Witness Stones Project will teach about:
- the history of slavery locally
- how to interpret evidence of slavery
- five central themes of slavery
The series is part of Rocky Hill Congregational Church's effort to examine it’s past, including its difficult history with slavery, as it approaches its 300th anniversary in 2027. The series will culminate with the dedication of a Witness Stone micro-monument recognizing Cloe Prut, a woman enslaved by the church's first pastor. This will be Rocky Hill's first Witness Stone. The Witness Stones Project is a program of Historic New England’s "Recovering New England's Voices" initiative.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend any or all sessions. While the lessons build upon each other, they also stand alone. No registration needed.
