A typical Iaido martial arts class consists of a traditional bow in, followed by a short meditation. After meditation, the class warms up with some exercises designed to loosen and stretch the muscles. Then, students receive instruction in the three basic blocks and 18 basic draws, followed by partner block-and-strike exercises.
The emphasis is on safety, technique and smoothness. Select classes will include instruction in traditional Okinawan weapons and each specific weapon’s interaction with the Japanese katana. The class ends with meditation and a traditional bow out.
You must be at least 13 years of age to take this class.
