Thanks For Everything Jimmy V
The annual Jimmy V Foundation auction was held yesterday on ESPN Radio. And every year, it causes me to watch the 1993 Jimmy V ESPY speech.
I never watched one game that Jim Valvano coached. I never met him or know anyone who has. But, for some reason, every time I watch the speech or hear about the man, I feel inspired.
His more than 11-minute speech is a chance to discover what is truly important in life such as friends, family, religion and working hard.
The speech allows us to remember that meaningless fights and quarrels are not important and we need to focus on bettering ourselves and our community each day.
Jimmy V is not Martin Luther King or Gandhi. But, like these men, he makes us believe in the human spirit and think there is still good in this world. And I truly hope they are right because I still believe there is good out there.
If you have never seen the speech, please take some time to watch it and try not to cry. (I have never made it halfway without balling). I know Jimmy V would appreciate it. And at the end of the video, don't tell me that you are not inspired because it is impossible not to be.
