The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation will be hosting its second annual "" and will feature a "military hero" who used the service to "achieve his independence."
Air Force Tech Sgt. Matthew Slaydon lost his left arm, shattered his face, suffered traumatic brain injuries and went blind after an IED exploded while he was in Iraq, a Fidelco release said. He will be the guest speaker and rider at the event as Slaydon will discuss how his Fidelco Guide Dog, “Legend,” has given him back his independence, according to the release.
Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman is expected to kickoff the ride and Black Eyed Sally's is serving BBQ after the riders park their motorcycles. There will be a 50/50 raffle, music by GTO and police K-9 Demonstration.
The event will be held at the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, located at 103 Vision Way in Bloomfield from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for single rider or $40 Rider and up to one passenger. If you don't ride, but still want to enjoy the activities, the price of admission is $10.

The Summer Movies Series Will Feature a Kevin James Comedy
"The Zookeeper" starting Kevin James will be shown on the big screen at the in back of when the sun goes down.
The family comedy is about "a group of zoo animals decide to break their code of silence in order to help their lovable zoo keeper (played by James) find love (played by Rosario Dawson)," according to IMDB.com.
The remaining movies, which are sponsored by the Park and Recreation Department, will be shown throughout the month of July:
- Puss in Boots - July 20
- The Muppets - July 30
Movie goers are asked to bring blankets, chairs and snacks, according to a Park and Recreation Department email. There is ample parking and all the movies are free of charge.
If a movie is cancelled due to inclement weather, that movie will be shown the following week instead of the regularly scheduled movie. Check the Park and Recreation Department website and Rocky Hill Patch to see if the movie has been cancelled.

National Dance Competition Comes to Rocky Hill This Weekend
Current and past champions will hit the dance floors at the for this weekend.
The event will feature dancers Roy and Janet Williams from Massachusetts and Wayne and Barbara Blackford from Arizona. Randy Roraback will host the two-day event.
The dance is $99 per couple and checks must be made payable to Carol Schilman.

Pottery Lecture Discusses God and Molding Ourselves Into Better People
A professor and consultant will mold a clay pot in front an audience at the Rocky Hill High School while helping them understand God's purpose Sunday morning.
Dr. Michael Ferris is an ordained minister, an adjunct professor at The Alliance Theological Seminary and The Alliance Graduate School of Counseling located in New York and a private consultant, according to his website.
On Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Ferris will be present his program titled "A Journey to the Potter's House," which is being sponsored by Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church. Ferris, who is a Connecticut resident, will mold a pot using a clay wheel while he speaks to the audience at .
"It is to show us that God (who is the potter) is in control of you (the clay) to help make you more like him," according to the staff at Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church.
