Main Street Creamery & Cafe Owner Decides to Keep on Scooping

The owner of Main Street Creamery & Cafe in Old Wethersfield has decided to reverse course and not sell the ice cream parlor.

Owner and founder Paula Rubinow re-opened on March 20 for the season, according to the Hartford Courant.

She had put the creamery up for sale in November after her father Sonny Rubinow passed away. Rubinow, a Middletown native, considered packing up and moving to Maine, but she decided stay and open come spring. She received a number of letters, phone calls and other signs of encouragement to keep the creamery open.

“But after every storm there is a rainbow and we are pleased to announce that Paula had decided to open for the 2015 season,” was written on the creamery’s Facebook page. “We continue to ask for your loving support as this will be the first full season without Sonny.”

The creamery has been featured in a number of local and national publications, including the New York Times. Besides ice cream the shop also sells corned beef sandwiches, which were made by Sonny in the past.

Many people were excited to hear the news that the shop would reopen for the 2015 season.

I’m sure this was a very difficult decision but you are making a lot of people and the children very happy by opening again,” wrote Erin Giuliano on creamery’s Facebook page. “We are very grateful will support you every step of the way!! If that means we have to eat ice cream every day then so be it !!!!!!”

For many the opening of the shop is as sure a sign of spring as flowers and warm weather.

“We are very excited,” wrote Meghan O’Brien McNamara on Facebook. “After this crazy winter, we are looking forward to Main Street Creamery’s opening ... it’s one of signs that Spring is on it’s way!!”
