Rocky Hill Fire Captain Dies Of 'Work-Related Cancer'

The fire department is mourning the loss of Captain James Lamarre, who served in a variety of roles for 27 years.

ROCKY HILL, CT — The Rocky Hill Fire Department is mourning the loss of its fire captain, who recently died of work-related cancer.

Captain James Lamarre died in the line of duty, the department said on Facebook, after he battled work-related cancer for several months. His death was announced on Tuesday.

Lamarre served the Rocky Hill Fire Department for 27 years in many roles, among them career apparatus mechanic. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and was chaplain of the Benino-Beck VFW Post 2138 in Rocky Hill, the department said.

On Saturday, the Rocky Hill Fire Department conducted a drive-by salute to Lamarre. A photo the department tweeted shows a line of fire trucks and EMS vehicles stretched down the street.

Fire department officials will announce final arrangement details soon, they said.
