Rocky Hill Obituary: Anita Watson, 92

Condolences to her family and friends.

Anita Jean (Adsit) Watson, 92, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife for 69 years of Donald Watson, passed away peacefully on Saturday (November 5, 2016) at Avery Heights.

She was born in Cortland, NY. the daughter of the late George and Emma (Smith) Adsit. Anita graduated from the University of PA. class of 1945 with a degree in math. After graduation she moved to Connecticut and worked for the Life Insurance Agency Management Association. She also worked for a short time as a substitute Special Education teacher.

Anita was life long member of the Girl Scouts, having joined in 1933 in her hometown of Cortland, NY. When her daughters were young she severed as a Girl Scout Leader and Service Chairman in Rocky Hill. She was most proud of receiving their Thanks Badge. Anita was a strong swimmer, having grown up by the finger lakes in NY, she spent much of her time on the water and continued to swim with a group at the high school until she was 89 years old.

She and Donald shared a love of the sea. Together they enjoyed boating, fishing, and sailing. They once boated up the East Coast from Florida to Connecticut. Anita volunteered at the Rocky Hill Historical Society for over 25 years planning exhibits and organizing its collections.

She was a longtime member and Deaconess of the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, and was a founding member of the Stephney Guild Seniors.

Besides her husband Donald, Anita leaves her two loving daughters, Nancy Watson and Sara Watson both of Rocky Hill. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as their families, and many friends throughout the community. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Adsit of Anchorage Alaska.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 11:00am, in the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, 805 Old Main St., Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill at 10:00am just prior to the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers donations in Anita's memory may be made to the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, at the address above, or to the Rocky Hill Historical Society 785 Old Main St. Rocky Hill, CT. 06067.
