Rocky Hill Obituary: David Hammaker, 79

Condolences to his family and friends.

David M. G. Hammaker, 79, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Epright) Hammaker, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital in West Hartford.

He was born on May 12, 1938 in New York, NY. a son of the late Paul and Patricia (Curry) Hammaker. Dave was a wonderful husband and father who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed boating in Long Island Sound and traveling with his wife Betty in his retirement. He especially enjoyed spending time in the sunshine--drinking wine on the porch in the afternoon with all of his girls.

A great lover of art and fiction he also enjoyed reciting poetry from memory, telling stories and charming anyone who would listen. He was a funny man who loved irony and humor. Dave was a man of his word who valued honesty and hard work, and he was often sought out for his advice and counsel on life’s challenges. He enjoyed beauty, a quiet home life and will forever be missed by the people who loved him.

Besides his wife, David leaves behind two daughters, Daerdra Pawelec and her husband Theodore of Willington and Jill Wnuk of Bolton; and two brothers, Robert Hammaker of Manhattan, KS. and John Hammaker of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves his grandchildren Joey and Danielle Wnuk of Bolton and Marissa Mendes of Bradford, NH. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Joe Wnuk.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 pm in the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Ave. Hartford. A light reception at the church will follow the service.
