Rocky Hill Obituary: Doris Schreieer, 90

Condolences to her family and friends.

Doris Elizabeth (Maycock) Schreier, 90, of Wethersfield, wife of Thomas W. Schreier, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Bel Air Manor in Newington after an extended illness.

Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on January, 16, 1926, Doris was the only child of the late Arthur and Doris (Barlow) Maycock and grew up in East Hampton, Massachusetts with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mother of three children, Doris was a stay at home mom. She was a member of the Rocky Hill United Church of Christ for 58 years and was a Deaconess, as well as a delegate to the Connecticut Conference of United Church of Christ women, traveling around the state, as well as volunteering in many other capacities.
She also volunteered at West Hill Middle School Library for 14 years, at the Rocky Hill Historical Society for 20 years and at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Hospital for many years.

Doris loved quilting and made many quilts for the United Church of Christ annual church fair. She also loved a number of arts and crafts including knitting, needlepoint and painting. She loved to knit hats and booties for premature babies. Doris loved to travel, especially staying at Elderhostels.

Doris is survived by her husband, Thomas of 67 years. They have three surviving children and their spouses, Arthur and Judith Schreier of East Hartford and Vero Beach, Barbara Schreier of Atlanta, Georgia and Thomas and Debbie Schreier of Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by her favorite niece, Gayle Mallard of Colchester. She is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, Matt and Laura Sevarino, Josh and Maura Schreier, Seth and Lindsey Schreier and Lily Schreier. She has 3 great grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, and Nicholas Sevarino.

A memorial service will be held on August 6th, 2016 at the Rocky Hill United Church of Christ. A calling hour will be held at 1:00 with a service following at 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doris' name at the Rocky Hill United Church of Christ or a charity of the donor's choice.
