Katherine (Gallo) Marino, 84, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife for 50 years of the late Salvatore Marino, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 with her daughters by her side.
Born in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Sicily on March 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Concetta (Mangiafico) Gallo. Katherine was a talented seamstress working for Merin Brothers and the Lombardi Company. She then worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Maple View Manor. She was a member of the St. Anthony Society and the Daughters of Canicattini Bagni.
She loved cooking, shopping and traveling. She especially enjoyed taking cruises and she loved vacationing in Florida. Nothing made her happier, however, than spending time with her family.

A loving mother and grandmother, Katherine will be forever missed by her two devoted daughters, Concettina Bernier and husband Brian of Rocky Hill and Mary-Jane DiPaola of Newington and her four adored grandchildren, Stephanie (DiPaola) Vallieres and husband Mike, Joseph DiPaola and girlfriend Kim DeCarlo, Erica DiPaola and Alexandra Bernier. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Gallo and his wife Mary and her sister, Lucy D’Alfonso, all of Rocky Hill; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank Katherine’s caregivers, Nani and Gizelle and especially her niece Tina D’Alfonso for their wonderful care and compassion.

Funeral services will be Friday (March 10) at 9 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:30-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
