Rocky Hill Obituary: Louis Gionta, 74

Condolences to his family and friends.

Louis John Gionta, 74, of Rocky Hill and formerly Queens, NY, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2017.

Born in Queens on July 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Christopher and Philomena (Roman) Gionta. Louis was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He lived most of his life in Queens, working for many years at Citi Group.

He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees but loved all sports and liked playing handball and basketball. He was an avid spectator of horse racing. When he wasn’t watching a game, he also enjoyed flower gardening. He was a movie buff and had encyclopedic knowledge about movies, sports, and history.

He will be dearly missed by his sister, Elaine O’Sullivan of Rocky Hill, as well as a niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Antoinette Gionta Russo and Elaine’s husband, William C. O’Sullivan.

Calling hours will be Friday (December 29) from 9-10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Church at 11 a.m., 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial with military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
